Employment Requirements

U.S. post office employment eligibility requirements are quite generous. Almost anyone can qualify. Specifics follow.

Education
There is no education requirement. A high school diploma is not even required.

Age
Minimum of 18 years at the time of employment or 16 years with a high school diploma.

Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.

Language
Basic competency in English.

Selective Service Registration
Males born after 12/ 31/ 59 must be registered with the United States Selective Service.

Employment History
Must provide current and 10 year employment history.

Military Service
Veterans must provide Copy 4 of the DD Form 214 and Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.

Background Check
A local criminal history check is required prior to employment, and a more extensive criminal history check is completed at employment.

Drug Screen
A qualification for employment is to be drug free and is determined through a drug screen.

Medical Assessment
A medical assessment is conducted to provide information about an applicant's ability to physically or mentally perform employment in a specific position.

Safe Driving Record
A safe driving record is required for employees who drive at work.
