Exam 916
Postal Exam 916 is used to fill fulltime custodial
positions.
Custodial employees perform manual labor duties in connection with the maintenance
and cleaning of the buildings, equipment, and grounds of a Postal facility.
In some cases, applications to take Exam 916 are limited to and accepted
from military veterans only.
Like most other Postal exams, Exam 916 is offered on an as-needed basis.
What's on the exam?
Postal Exam 916 consists of four sections as detailed below.
- Vocabulary & Reading
This section tests your ability to read and understand written materials
as used in reading product labels instructions and warnings, material
safety data sheets (MSDS), equipment operating instructions, and cleaning
route sheets.
- Basic Safety
This section tests your knowledge of basic safety principles and
practices such as proper lifting techniques, use of personal
protective equipment, and awareness of electrical, chemical,
and other health hazards in the area of cleaning and building
maintenance.
- General Cleaning
This section tests your knowledge of general cleaning and disinfecting
materials, techniques, equipment, and tools commonly used by custodians.
- Following Written Instructions
The Postal Service claims that this section tests your ability
to understand and carry out instructions similar to those you might
receive on the job. However, we cannot believe that any sane human
being would ever give you instructions as strange, convoluted,
and confusing as the wording of these questions. Plus, in order
to answer a question correctly, you must accomplish three steps
a outlined below
- First you must create a preliminary answer based
upon the wording of the question. The preliminary answer will
be a letter and a number put together like this: T 5
- Then, you
must look up the preliminary answer on a provided table to
find the answer choice (A, B, C, D, or E) that it correlates
to.
- Finally, you darken the proper answer choice (A, B, C, D,
or E) on your answer sheet.
