Jobs in Highest Demand
The Postal Job in greatest demand is City Postal Carrier. Consider the below quote from a recent Postal publication:
"The number of delivery points increases by 1.7 million each year. This increase results in … 4,800 new post office carriers."
Basically, this means that the Postal Service must hire at least 4,800 new Carriers each year just to satisfy expanding demand. Plus, Postal authorities say that fewer individuals are applying for Carrier jobs in recent years and that the Postal Service experiences more employee turnover in City Post Office Carrier positions. The bottom line is that, while there is more demand for City Carriers due to expansion and employee turnover, fewer people are applying for these jobs.
As a matter of fact, many Postal districts have begun testing frequently - as often as twice a year - just to fill City Carrier Positions. This is amazing in view of the fact that individual districts have historically given the exam for City Carriers only once every few years.
To encourage more people to apply for these United States Postal City Carrier jobs, the Postal Service has significantly increased starting wages for most Carrier positions. As of early 2005, City Carriers started out at $17.48 per hour … the highest starting wages for any entry level Processing, Distribution, Delivery, and Retail position.
What more could we ask for? Unless you simply refuse to work as a City Carrier, this is the job to apply for. Even if you don’t love the idea of being a City Carrier, it could be a great way to get your foot in the door (sooner rather than later) and then transfer to another type position at the first opportunity.
To get a City Postal Carrier job, you must take Exam 473/473-C. To be more specific, you must take the exam and score high enough to get a job offer.
