Area Maintenance Technician
Test required: Postal Exam 955
Area Maintenance Technicians install, maintain, repair, remove, and dispose of Postal equipment as appropriate for Post Offices (not having maintenance capability) within the geographic area served by the area maintenance office to which assigned. They also install, move, or repair Post Office screen-line equipment, lock boxes, furniture, and mechanical equipment, supervising such additional help as projects may require.
Demand for technical maintenance jobs is significant and is growing rapidly as Postal systems and equipment become more technologically advanced. This is expected to be one of the highest growth Postal employment fields within the foreseeable future. Maintenance jobs also offer some of the highest starting wages.
