When applying for a job that calls for USPS exam 473/473E, you are given 3 days from your application date to complete the first portion of the test, the Personal Characteristics & Experience Inventory Section. This section is not proctored, meaning that you take it on your own without supervision. You can take it at home, at a library, at a friend’s house, or wherever you have access to a computer and the internet. You can take this section anytime you wish during the 3 day period, but it must be completed within 3 days of your application date.

If you pass the Personal Characteristics & Experience Inventory section, you will be scheduled to take the proctored portion of the Post Office exam. This portion will be taken under supervision at a proctored testing site. The proctored portion of the exam consists of four sections – the Address Checking Section, the Forms Completion Section, the Coding Section, and the Memory Section.
